| A totally unexpected outbreak of sunny weather and the presence of a couple of ships tempted me down to Goole on Sunday 20 September. I went more for the drive than anything else as, having glanced at the ABP movements site in the morning I could see anything that I could be sure was a new sighting. I thought that one of the ships at Howdendyke might be, but the others all appeared to be nothing more than the usual suspects. Nevertheless the weather was perfect and She Who Must be Obeyed graciously agreed to accompany me thus obviating her normal tactic of laying a major guilt trip on me when I got back. As things panned out there were three ships at Howdendyke (first time I've seen three there for a long time) and five at Goole. Not only that, but four of these turned out to be new sightings. Normally I'd have to go all the way to Keadby to get anything like that many, so all in all, it was a successful outing. The only disappointment was that I hadn't known in advance that Wheldale was doing "cruises" around the docks - had I known that I would have left herself at home and taken the tour, so that will just have to wait for another day. |
