| I’m not entirely certain how to describe our stop at Villefranche Sur Mer. The cruis itinerary had scheduled a port call at Monte Carlo for Saturday 25 Apr, but the Captain, having examined the weather forecast, decided that the conditions were likely to be too windy to berth safely at Monte Carlo so he decided to take Queen Victoria into the bay at Villevranche instead. So, I still can’t make up my mind whether this change of plan was a bonus or a disappointment. However, as one of the main reasons for booking this particular cruise was to provide an opportunity to fill in a glaring gap in my list of countries visited, namely France, then that aim was achieved without difficulty. I headed for Nice on a shore excursion in the morning and, although could still have gone to Monaco on the afternoon shuttle bus, in the end, I opted not to. Against the odds, I still managed to find a few ships to photograph in Nice, although most of what’s in here represents mostly the fringe areas of ship photography! |
