On Sunday 10 August, a visit to friends in Hartlepool provided an opportunity for a brief call at the Power Station Sands to see what was to be seen. Only three ships on this occasion as it happens, but in consolation, two of them were new sightings. The tug Inge had been at Irvine’s Quay in Hartlepool but, when we dropped by there later there was no sign of her. There had been some very heavy showers around but, by the time we got down to the river side, the rain had gone and a high wind had sprung up which was producing a min sandstorm at about ankle height. OK for humans, but Poppy the dog found it hard going as her little legs didn’t get her head much above the level of the blowing sand.
